Last week, Washington lawmakers concluded the 2019 legislative session. The Steering Committee of WA-SEN is excited to share that among many notable pieces of legislation is a bill that provides full and stable funding for the State Need Grant. Simply put:
- The Washington College Grant replaces the State Need Grant and raises the threshold of eligibility to serve more students (yes, you made this happen!)
- The Washington College Grant will be a guarantee on which eligible students can rely (and this too!)
- Over the next two academic years, all eligible students will receive funding (that’s 18,000 more students than before)
This is a significant win for students, and for all Washingtonians. Your voice and role making the case for full funding has been unique and vital! You brought the student voice to Olympia. You rallied your campus community, attended training, sent emails, mailed postcards, donned scarves—and educated legislators in a meaningful way.
